Lakes Region Film Society – LRFS – is a Vermont non-profit membership organization. LRFS is licensed by the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation – MPLC — http://www.mplc.com.
LRFS screens art, international, classic, independent and documentary films for its members, films which otherwise might not be shown in commercial cinemas. The LRFS screening venue is the Wells Town Offices conference room, and is entirely funded by suggested annual non-profit membership contributions.
The mission of LRFS is to enrich our community life by showing these films to members drawn from the town of Wells and surrounding areas.
The MPLC license permits advertisement of film titles only to LRFS members and at the venue. Thus, the monthly schedule is emailed to members, and displayed in the lobby of the Wells Town Hall. Dates and times of the LRFS events are posted on the Wells town calendar.
A common feature that characterizes a film society screening is that it usually begins with an introduction of the film to the audience and/or ends with a discussion/debate about the film, where the members and organizers and sometimes the filmmakers themselves, exchange their views. The LRFS often includes members’ suggested titles in its viewing schedule.
